Diorama del Nuovo Mondo (Diorama of the New World) is a new project by Marco Salvetti, who after participating in the group show Heads in 2015, returns to Yellow with a solo exhibition that moves from the idea of “documentation” of a new world which, however being conceived in an ahistorical dimension, it conceals implicit references to the present.
The exhibition is imagined as a sort of pictorial/painting cosmorama of human history, in which the references to geology, anthropology and to the history of science are connected to the artist’s conscience and his needs for the aesthetics. In his essay Scoperta delle Arti Cosiddette Primitive Tristan Tzara recognizes how comfortable is to see that “the modern mankind, which continually moves towards the expanding future, is the result of a considerable accumulation of thoughts, efforts and previous experiences that make it aware that nothing is definitive and prepare the human being to see the world as a movement, a struggle, a perpetual transformation”.
Salvetti depicts a New World proceeding from engaging uchronias: what would be the history of nature today without human history? How science and humanities would have developed if many of the past refused scientific theories, such as the geocentric one or some pseudoscientific descriptions contained in Pliny’s Naturalis Historia, were still and universally accepted today?

Diorama del Nuovo Mondo è il nuovo progetto di Marco Salvetti che, dopo la partecipazione alla collettiva Heads nel 2015, torna a Yellow con una mostra personale formulata attorno all’idea di “documentazione” di un nuovo mondo che, seppur concepito in una dimensione astorica, dissimula impliciti riferimenti alla realtà.
La mostra si presenta come una sorta di cosmorama pittorico della storia dell’umanità, in cui i riferimenti alla geologia, all’antropologia e alla storia delle scienze si connettono alla coscienza e alle istanze estetiche dell’artista, le cui opere testimoniano come l’uomo di oggi, che si muove in un universo teso verso l’avvenire, sia il prodotto di un’accumulazione considerevole di pensieri, di sforzi e di esperienze pregresse che, rendendolo consapevole che niente è definitivo, lo prepara a vedere il mondo come movimento, lotta e continua trasformazione.
Immaginando dunque un Nuovo Mondo, Salvetti opera per avvincenti ucronìe, interrogandosi su cosa sarebbe stata oggi, ad esempio, la storia della natura senza la storia dell’uomo, oppure come si sarebbero sviluppati il pensiero dell’intelletto, la tecnologia, le scienze e le lettere se molte delle teorie scientifiche di un tempo, come ad esempio quella geocentrica dell’Almagesto tolemaico o certe descrizioni pseudoscientifiche contenute all’interno delle Storie Naturali di Plinio, fossero ancora oggi universalmente accettate.
